I think what he means by "shimmed up" is removing the spacer. I also modified my carb further by jetting the carb up two sizes. The factory jet is size #145. I went with #165 (it goes up in 10mm increments). The savage deffinately runs cooler and seems to have more response. I get less of those weird power fluctuations and sputtering. When the bike was stock, the spark plug showed white (meaning a lean conditon), now the plug is much darker (a little on the rich side now). I may come down one jet size.
